Taking your first ride:
Call (516) 494-4242 at least 15 minutes before you want to get picked up. Before your first ride we will need to collect some basic information in order to create an account for you. This should only take a few minutes.
Once you request a ride, stay on the line and we'll match you with a driver within a couple of minutes (usually 30 seconds) and tell you the driver's name, car color, make/model, last three digits of their license plate and estimated time of arrival.
Keep your cell phone near you. Turn the ringer up and keep the line free in case your driver needs to reach you. You’ll also get a text message when the car is arriving to your location.
Sit back and relax! We will automatically charge your credit card and email you the receipt. No need to worry about having cash on hand.

I need a ride right away, can I call you?
Yes! As long as it is Monday through Friday, 9am-6pm you can call to book a ride on-demand. Alternatively, if you have an upcoming event or appointment you know you will need a ride for, we can schedule that for you too. Just call (516) 494-4242.
How much does it cost?
Rides booked through Umbrella are typically a fraction of the cost of a traditional cab. We will always quote you a fare estimate upfront, every time you call. Umbrella adds a $5 concierge fee to cover the cost of coordinating the ride (this fee is only $3 for Umbrella Members)— this will be included in the price quote given at time of booking. We will email you the receipt after the ride.
Who are the drivers?
We partner with Lyft. We communicate with drivers to insure they are prepared to offer extra assistance and we blacklist drivers that do not perform up to our standards. Though not guaranteed, most drivers are happy to make multiple stops and open doors. You can read more about Lyft’s driver screening process here.
Can I cancel my ride?
During periods of normal demand, you have five minutes to cancel your ride for free. If it’s been longer than five minutes or if demand is higher than normal, a cancelation fee of $5 - $10 is charged. When the driver arrives, they'll call you. If you're nowhere to be found, whatever the cancellation fee is in your area will be applied. 100% of the fee goes to compensate the driver for their time.
What is Umbrella?
Umbrella is a membership program for homeowners 65+. We provide an extra set of hands for the small things in and around the house (via our networked of triple-vetted community members, primarily retirees), and trusted referrals for the big jobs. We are constantly adding new services to improve the value of the membership (including transportation!).
